I have the pleasure of hanging out with some really cool chicks on Monday nights and digging into God’s Word. I LOVE it. It is one of the joys of my life. That He would grant me the honor to pray over, dig deep with, laugh with these women. Oh the honor.
I find myself in the big middle of preparing for our next study that starts on Monday. We’re traveling to Orlando and jumping into the amazingness of Kay Arthur, Priscilla Shirer and Beth Moore as they deliver the message of Faithful, Abundant, True.
I haven’t been able to let go of something that Kay Arthur said in Session 1.
Really haven’t been able to let it go.
“We are so entangled with the affairs of this world that we have stopped studying God’s Word. We need to understand, we need to grow up. I don’t want to hear that you don’t have time. What are you going to tell God Almighty when you stand at the judgment seat of Christ and give an account for the deeds done in your body? What are you going to say? I had time for this, I had time for that, but if you have time for this and that, but if you have time for anything and you don’t have time for the Word of God, something is wrong in your life and you need to reorder your priorities! I don’t care if you are a young mother, I don’t care how many children you have. You can study the Word of God and you have a duty before God to be a woman of the Book and raise them up according to every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. YOU NEED TO KNOW THE WORD OF GOD. (emphasis mine)” – Kay Arthur, Faithful – Session 1
Haven’t been able to let it go.
How many other things of this world do I fill my life with? How many books of the Bible do I really know? REALLY know? I remember Beth Moore sharing in a Bible study that she was memorizing Psalm 119. I remember thinking about how busy she must have been. How busy her life was, how many people she was ministering to and she truly memorized chapter and books of the Bible. I was overwhelmed at the obedience of this daughter of the King. I didn’t follow her.
Here I am all these years later. What do I fill my life with? Good things. Family, friends, conferences, Bible Study, Church, work. Not such good things.. TV that doesn’t glorify Him, movies, material possessions. But am I?
Am I a woman of the Book?
Do I really and truly know His Word and His will over my life? Or do I simply pick and choose what serves me at the moment?
